A return visit to the Jesolo circuit, near Venice, provided Julia Angelard with an opportunity to show herself from the very beginning of the weekend. The experience gained during the fourth round of the ROK Cup Italia, as well as the two previous rounds of the Champions of the Future Academy, bore abundant fruit, rewarding the 13-year-old Pole with high positions during both days of competition at the Pista Azzurra.
Great Saturday and special Sunday
The Saturday qualifying session proved that Julia Angelard aims high and has the pace to think about the top positions. The Minardi Management protégé took a high second place, placing herself in the first row for the races. Julia Angelard finished the first qualifying race on the podium, taking third place, and in the second one she did even better and jumped to second place. Unfortunately, the final race did not quite go according to plan for the JSTR by Jastrzębski Racing rider, who dropped to 12th place at the end of the race, although she rode in the TOP5 for most of the time.
Sunday meant a completely new beginning and a clean slateJulia Angelard decided to write in golden letters, setting the best time during the qualifying session and as a result starting the first of the qualifying races from Pole Position. Right at the start she started to pull away from the other competitors, however after 7 laps the competition was suspended, the judges raised the red flag, eliminating the advantage that the teenage Polish rider had built up. The race finally ended after two formative laps with a one-lap sprint to the finish line. Julia Angelard kept her cool and brought home the first place, to stand on the podium again in the second of the qualifying races – this time in P2.
The Sunday final meant great emotions, but also a great chance. Julia Angelard had not only many fans on her side this time, who had seen her sensational form throughout the weekend and were expecting redemption in the second final, but also fate. As a result, in the Sunday final, the JSTR by Jastrzębski Racing rider reached the finish line as the second, standing on the coveted podium in the COFTA series.
Julia Angelard: that was my weekend
“What a weekend! Full of fight, speed and emotions – which were not lacking on Saturday or Sunday. I am mega proud of all the heats and the pace I showed throughout the weekend, being the fastest during training as well. Although Saturday’s final didn’t end as planned, I gave it my all on Sunday and I am very happy with the result I achieved this weekend. This was my weekend! We keep pushing and I hope that the next races as part of the Champions of the Future Academy will be just as positive, and preferably with another piccolo shower on the podium!”– the JSTR by Jastrzębski Racing competitor does not hide her joy.
