JULIA ANGELARD FINISHED FOURTH IN THE SECOND ROUND OF CHAMPIONS OF THE FUTURE ACADEMY
- The Champions of the Future Academy competition held last weekend in Thessaloniki, Greece, brought a fantastic result to 14-year-old Julia Angelard.
- The teenage Polish woman, who was driving in second place during Saturday’s final, was hit by her rival, as a result of which both of them did not finish the race, which Julia could have won.
- In Sunday’s final, the Polish competitor finished fourth, just 0.203 seconds behind her rival.
The debut round of the Champions of the Future Academy, held on Greek soil at the Circuit 27 near Thessaloniki, seemed unpredictable from the start of the weekend. Considering it’s a new track, drivers weren’t allowed to practice there and compete with others, so all competitors had equal opportunities to compete for the title of fastest. Among them was Julia Angelard, who, despite some unexpected circumstances, performed brilliantly in Greece.
A dangerous Friday and the fight for the podium in both finals
Although Friday’s training sessions were very positive from the perspective of the ORLEN Motorsport Academy’s participant, the hurricane appearing over the track interrupted the competition, taking away further opportunities to gain valuable experience on the track and causing damage in the form of destroyed equipment, karts and cars, as well as injuries to competitors, which also affected Julia Angelard. However, the Polish teenager was very lucky despite the serious-looking incident. Despite this, she waited until the last minute on Saturday morning for a medical examination and a decision on whether she would be allowed to compete on Saturday.
After finishing second, both Saturday heats Julia Angelard finished fifth, battling ambitious rivals. Julia Angelard showed she’s a fighter, and despite the previous day’s events, she managed to find strength and a very good pace, recording multiple fastest laps throughout the day and fiercely fighting for track position. The final heat wasn’t without a fight either – after moving up to second place, Julia confidently rode the podium, trying to catch up with the leader. Unfortunately, one of the competitors overestimated her abilities, causing contact and eliminating herself and the teenage Polish driver from the fight for victory.
Sunday brought a completely new set of circumstances – Julia Angelard took a cool head once again in qualifying, this time finishing fourth. Strong starts and bold maneuvers allowed the Polish athlete to advance to third and second place in both heats, respectively, which earned her a second-place start in Sunday’s final. There, she narrowly missed out on a coveted podium finish – Julia finished fourth, just 0.203 seconds behind the competitor ahead of her.
Julia Angelard: A dangerous Friday and the fight for the podium in both finals
“The weekend in Greece was a real rollercoaster – from the hospital stay and stitches in my head, to a really strong pace on Saturday and a good run on Sunday! There were a lot of positives to take from Saturday, with several fastest laps, but after overtaking another driver and being in second place during the final, the third-place driver cut me off and eliminated us both. It’s a shame about the great pace, but on Sunday I was able to prove my worth once again. A huge thank you to everyone who helped me this weekend, especially Enzo for keeping me in shape. Special thanks also to my friend Vanesa for dedicating her podium finish to me on Sunday!” emphasizes the Minardi Management powered by Dag Ltd. protégé.
The Polish competitor has another racing weekend ahead of her – the third round of Champions of The Future, held in Mülsen, Germany, scheduled for June 3-6, 2026.
