MIA ZANKI CLIMBS FROM 16TH TO 2ND IN THE RAIN
Changeable weather conditions shaped Mia Zanki’s race weekend. After qualifying eighth, the young Austrian delivered a remarkable comeback in the opening race, charging from 16th to second in just seven laps in rainy conditions while running on slick tyres.
Tyre temperatures made it difficult to achieve optimal performance during qualifying. Nevertheless, Mia secured eighth place, giving her a solid starting position for the race weekend.
Conditions changed immediately before the start of the first race, as rain began to fall while the entire field was still on slick tyres. Following a collision ahead of her, Mia dropped back to 16th position. As the track became increasingly wet, the race developed into a challenging and unpredictable contest. Mia adapted impressively to the conditions, climbing through the field and reaching second place in just seven laps. Her remarkable recovery was one of the standout moments of the weekend.
The second race presented a different challenge, with the track conditions difficult to assess. The team expected the circuit to remain wet, and the switch to dry-weather tyres did not happen in time. As the track dried, Mia lacked the necessary pace. She was also involved in a collision, preventing her from completing the race as planned.
In the final Superfinal, Mia started from 20th position. She made up numerous places and fought her way into ninth, a position she still held on the final lap. However, she lost two places in the closing moments and ultimately finished 11th.
The weekend delivered mixed results but also valuable sporting insights. Mia’s outstanding recovery in the opening race demonstrated her ability to react quickly and make up multiple positions under difficult conditions. Her second place in the rain, together with her comeback in the Superfinal, were the sporting highlights of a demanding race weekend.
