MATTIA BUCCI CROWNED ITALIAN VICE-CHAMPION OF THE CIGTE

The driver from Abruzzo concludes the 2026 season with a mix of highs and lows
The 2026 season concluded at Mugello. Following an extremely positive Friday, highlighted by the fastest overall time in the second free practice session, things took a turn for the worse during qualifying; a technical issue arose before Mattia could even take to the track, forcing the team to start from the back of the grid. The race the following day showed promise: strong pace during the opening stints allowed the trio to fight their way back to second place, a position that would have secured them the Italian title. However, adverse and fluctuating weather conditions led to the #163 Lamborghini getting beached in the gravel with just an hour left in the race, making any further recovery impossible. The car was eventually able to rejoin, and the three drivers finished the championship in second place overall, earning the title of Italian vice-champions in their debut year behind the wheel of this machine.

“At the end of the three-hour race at the Mugello circuit, held under adverse weather conditions, we secured the title of Italian vice-champions in the Italian Endurance Championship, GT Cup category. It was a complex weekend, full of emotion. A technical issue on Saturday forced us to start from the very back of the grid. On Sunday, thanks to a significant recovery, we climbed up to second place, a position that, at that moment, would have earned us the title. However, the difficult track conditions caused us to go off-line and end up in the gravel. With about an hour left to go, we tried to fight back, but we couldn’t quite reclaim the championship. This episode reflects the very nature of motorsport: in such challenging conditions, mistakes are always possible. Championships are won and lost; the only person who doesn’t make mistakes is the one who never tries… What matters is that we gave it our all until the very end. That is why I am still proud and happy with the result achieved in my first year with this car, and with the effort put in by my teammates, Pietro Agoglia and Alessandro Cremona, who poured their hearts into the fight for this title alongside me, as well as DL Racing and Krypton MotorSport for their hard work this year, especially in this final race, which made it possible for us to even take the start” stated Mattia.
