TOUGH SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL FOR MATTIA BUCCI
The driver is now turning his attention to the final round of the Endurance series and the battle for the Italian title.
The final round of the Italian GT Championship’s Sprint series took place at Monza from October 9 to 11. The young driver from Abruzzo, partnered this time with Ronnie Stefani, once again encountered technical issues that impacted the entire weekend. Despite this, the duo managed to establish excellent chemistry and demonstrate good speed.
In both qualifying sessions, the #163 Lamborghini consistently placed in the top 10. Race 1 was cut short by a technical issue that prevented the car from continuing, while Race 2 was compromised by a collision with another competitor: starting from eighth place, Mattia had climbed to fourth when, towards the end of his stint, he was hit by an opposing car. This impact compromised the stint of his teammate, Stefani, and ultimately led to a component failure on the final lap, forcing them to finish tenth in their class.
“It was a weekend where we demonstrated good speed. In Race 2, while running fourth in our class (fifth overall), we encountered a technical issue following contact with a rival; this dropped us back to a tenth-place finish in the class. This challenging Sprint Championship season was certainly a hard-fought one: we never quite managed to fully showcase our potential, but we are taking away a wealth of experience and the knowledge that we never gave up. I want to thank DAG Management for always standing by my side, the DL Racing team for fighting alongside me-especially during the toughest moments—Ronnie Stefani for the excellent work we did together during our first weekend as teammates, and all my partners who make it possible for me to pursue my dream. Now, we need to focus on the final round of the CIGT Endurance championship from October 30 to November 1; we head into it leading the standings, so we’ll have to give it our all to bring the title home… I can’t wait!” said Mattia.
In fact, in just a few weeks, over the weekend of October 30–November 1, the fourth race weekend of the Endurance series will take place at Mugello.
